Shipping Container Scam

Shipping Container Scam

Shipping Container Scams are a growing type of online fraud that target businesses and individuals looking for affordable storage or transport solutions. Criminals set up fake websites or social media pages advertising shipping containers at very low prices. They often claim to sell “excess stock,” “used containers,” or offer “urgent clearance sales” to create a sense of urgency.

Once a victim shows interest, scammers request payment upfront—usually by bank transfer, cryptocurrency, or other non-refundable methods. After receiving the money, they either disappear completely or send false delivery promises, stalling until the victim realizes no container will arrive. Some even send fraudulent invoices with realistic branding to appear legitimate.

Warning signs include lack of verifiable contact information, refusal to accept secure payment methods, and prices far below the market rate. Scammers also commonly impersonate real companies by copying their logos or creating similar domain names, tricking buyers into believing they are dealing with a trusted business.

To avoid these scams, buyers should research the seller, confirm the age of the website, check online reviews, and insist on secure payment methods. Genuine suppliers welcome inspections and use traceable transactions. Protecting yourself requires vigilance, skepticism of “too good to be true” offers, and careful due diligence.
